LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

Super Micro Computer (SMCI) shares fell on Wednesday as investors reacted to a widening AI chip-smuggling probe involving Nvidia and Super Micro. Taiwan authorities detained employees, escalating scrutiny from a March U.S. DOJ indictment. Despite this negative sentiment, the company reported a record backlog exceeding $60 billion and raised gross margin expectations. Technically, SMCI trades below key moving averages with support at $25.50 and resistance at $30.00.

Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) shares are trading lower on Wednesday as investors digest fallout from a widening AI chip-smuggling probe.

  • Super Micro Computer stock is among today’s weakest performers. What’s weighing on SMCI shares?

What’s Driving Super Micro Computer Stock?

Taiwan prosecutors detained an Nvidia employee Tuesday, pulling the chipmaker into a widening investigation over alleged smuggling of AI servers to China, a case that has been an overhang for Super Micro in recent months.

The latest scrutiny traces back to a March indictment in which the U.S. Department of Justice charged a Super Micro co-founder and two others with helping route billions of dollars’ worth of restricted Nvidia chips to China. Taiwan authorities escalated their own probe in early July, raiding Super Micro’s local offices and detaining two employees.

Super Micro is also coming off a preliminary fourth-quarter update that flagged a record backlog, with new orders exceeding $60 billion and gross margin expectations of 15% to 17%, above prior guidance. Management said revenue should land near the low end of its $11 billion to $12.5 billion range, with the midpoint roughly matching the $11.73 billion Street view.

Critical Support and Resistance Levels for SMCI

From a trend standpoint, SMCI is still fighting the bigger downtrend: it’s trading well below its 50-day SMA ($32.53) and 200-day SMA ($33.04), and the death cross that formed in December 2025 continues to loom over rallies. Even after a bounce attempt, the stock is still down 53.04% over the past 12 months, which helps explain why rebounds can fade quickly.

Near-term, price is hovering around the 20-day SMA ($27.55), which is why the tape can feel "stuck" even on volatile news days. RSI is the cleaner momentum lens right now at 46.54 (neutral), meaning the stock isn’t stretched to an obvious overbought/oversold extreme — RSI is a quick way to gauge whether buying or selling pressure is getting too crowded.

The recent map of turning points also matters: a swing high formed in June, followed by a swing low in July, and the stock broke below support in July after earlier strength. That sequence keeps the burden on bulls to reclaim moving averages before the chart shows more than just "stabilizing."

  • Key Resistance: $30.00 — a round-number ceiling that also sits below the 50-day SMA area, where rebounds can stall
  • Key Support: $25.50 — a nearby floor that lines up as a recent pivot zone if the July weakness reasserts itself
