TONGCHENGTRAVEL HopeGoo: Hong Kong Easter and Qingming Festival holiday flight bookings increased nearly 4 times year-on-year
This year's Easter holiday in Hong Kong seamlessly connects with the Qingming Festival holiday, forming a 5-day long holiday. According to data from TONGCHENGTRAVEL (00780.HK) under its international travel platform HopeGoo, as of March 25, the booking enthusiasm for flights from Hong Kong to mainland cities and overseas has increased nearly fourfold year-on-year, with the average ticket price slightly rising by about 3% compared to the same period last year.
Data from the HopeGoo platform shows that hotel bookings during the holiday period have increased by more than eight times, with mid-to-high-end hotel bookings accounting for over 40%. The peak of Hong Kong residents traveling during the holiday is expected to occur on April 3, with flight and hotel bookings for that day accounting for more than 30% of the total holiday volume.
The most popular travel destinations for Hong Kong residents are expected to include: Tokyo, Taipei, Bangkok, Seoul, Manila, Kaohsiung, Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur, Cebu, and Jakarta.
Data shows that Hong Kong residents' mainland travel is relatively concentrated in cities such as Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Zhuhai, and Foshan in the Greater Bay Area. Thanks to the "one-hour living circle" of the Greater Bay Area, most Hong Kong residents choose same-day round trips during the holiday, with spending on these short trips mainly focused on dining, short-distance transportation, and local cultural tourism projects. In addition to Greater Bay Area cities, Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Changsha, and Sanya are also popular long-distance travel destinations for Hong Kong residents during the holiday.
While Hong Kong residents enjoy a 5-day long holiday, mainland residents are also in the midst of a short holiday for Qingming, with the spring break for primary and secondary schools in some mainland cities coinciding with the 6-day Qingming holiday, creating a "two-way rush" in cultural and tourism consumption between the two regions, with differentiated and complementary consumption preferences. According to relevant data from the TONGCHENGTRAVEL platform, Hong Kong ranks high among the outbound travel destinations for mainland residents during Qingming, with a significant increase in bookings for hotels and other travel products for mainland residents traveling to Hong Kong. As of March 25, hotel booking enthusiasm for mainland residents traveling to Hong Kong has increased nearly 30% year-on-year, driving a noticeable rise in average hotel prices in popular areas, with hotels in core business districts such as Tsim Sha Tsui and Causeway Bay seeing relatively high booking enthusiasm, and the average hotel consumption per person per night being about 1,400 yuan.
A relevant person in charge of HopeGoo stated that Hong Kong residents' consumption has extended from core cities in the Greater Bay Area to midwestern cities, with the consumption radius continuously expanding, while mainland residents traveling to Hong Kong focus more on immersive experiences, and the integration of consumption between the two regions is continuously improving
