Domestic carbon exchange to be launched in May

Vietnam will launch its domestic carbon exchange in May, aiming to create a market-based mechanism for greenhouse gas mitigation and carbon pricing. The exchange will facilitate trading of emission allowances and carbon credits, enhancing transparency and price discovery. Operated by the Hanoi Stock Exchange, it will integrate with existing financial institutions to ensure a secure trading environment. The pilot phase will allocate emissions quotas to 110 large emitters, incentivizing emissions reduction. Vietnam has significant potential for carbon credits, particularly from agriculture and forestry, with previous successful transactions in the voluntary carbon market.
