After years of rapid expansion, the leader in the ophthalmology sector is facing the reality of diminishing scale effects.
On April 24, Aier released its 2025 financial report, showing revenue of 22.353 billion yuan for the period, a year-on-year increase of 6.53%.
The business foundation remains solid, with annual outpatient visits exceeding 18.8917 million, up 11.52% year-on-year; surgical procedures also reached 1.68 million, recording a 5.77% year-on-year increase.
However, this has not yet translated into profit growth as expected. In 2025, Aier's net profit attributable to shareholders was 3.24 billion yuan, a year-on-year decline of 8.88%.
Analyzing this slightly pressured performance statement, the core lies in the financial pressure caused by non-recurring gains and losses and the aftermath of expansion.
On one hand, non-recurring gains and losses constituted a clear drag. The reduction in government subsidies and the decline in income from fair value changes directly weakened profit performance. Excluding these impacts, Aier's adjusted net profit for 2025 was 3.141 billion yuan, a slight year-on-year increase of 1.36%.
On the other hand, and more fundamentally, Aier is currently in a concentrated digestion period of heavy asset investment. As numerous newly built or relocated hospitals launched operations, construction in progress was converted into fixed assets, leading to depreciation and amortization that are eroding current profit margins.
Facing profit squeezing under the heavy asset model, Aier attempts to break through by improving single-store efficiency and technical premiums. Over the past year, it accelerated the implementation of &#34;Aier AI Eye Hospitals&#34; and launched multiple &#34;AI Ophthalmologists&#34; intelligent agents featuring functions such as surgical adaptability assessment.
At the same time, Aier further deepened its focus on sub-specialties such as difficult tear duct diseases and diabetic eye diseases, introducing cutting-edge equipment like Zeiss's new-generation robotic femtosecond lasers.
Internal efficiency improvements alone are insufficient; continuous external expansion is the accelerator for performance growth.
On April 24, Aier announced the launch of an IPO on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, joining the vast wave of companies listing in Hong Kong.
&#34;This is to deeply advance our globalization strategy, build an international platform, and achieve synergy between industrial layout and capital structure,&#34; Aier stated.
Whether the Hong Kong listing will inject sufficient capital vitality into Aier's new round of expansion remains a topic of close market attention.
