ZAWYA: EBRD backs Egypt’s renewable energy BOO framework

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved technical cooperation support for Egypt's renewable energy sector, focusing on Build-Own-Operate (BOO) projects. This initiative aims to assist the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company with advisory services for solar, wind, and hybrid projects. Egypt targets 42% of electricity generation from renewables by 2030, with private sector involvement. EBRD recently provided a $65 million loan for a hybrid solar-plus-storage project. The country is preparing new BOO tenders to expand clean power generation under a robust regulatory framework established by the Renewable Energy Law.
