On the afternoon of May 5 local time, Ayatollah Velayati, foreign affairs advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, stated that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed and will not be reopened unless "the national will of the Islamic Republic of Iran decides." In a statement, Velayati said that US President Trump's claims about limiting Iran's missile capabilities are unfounded, and that Iran and the United States remain at war and will continue their "resistance."
