SpaceX's Grok 4.7 Beats GPT-5.6 Sol on Coding While Charging Less

That is much cheaper than AI developer OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol at $4 and $20 per million tokens, respectively. Anthropic's Fable 5.1 costs even more at $10 and $50. Grok 4.7 also scored 46.3% on CursorBench 4.0 (which tests coding tasks), ahead of GPT-5.6 Sol at 41.7%, although Fable 5.1 remained higher at 51.8%.
Unsurprisingly, the lower pricing and stronger coding performance than GPT-5.6 Sol have become a key part of SpaceX's pitch.
Grok 4.7 uses a larger base model than Grok 4.6 and was trained for longer on harder problems that can take hours to complete. As a result, the company says the model is better at checking its own work and handling more information over long tasks.
Grok 4.7 Improves on Professional Work
Additionally, SpaceX tested Grok 4.7 on GDPval, which measures how well AI handles work similar to tasks done by professionals. Interestingly, Grok 4.7 scored 1,695 on that benchmark. That was slightly below Fable 5.1 at 1,735. Still, it beat GPT-6 Astra's 1,542. Grok 4.6 previously scored 1,605, so the newest model also showed a noticeable improvement over its predecessor.
SpaceX also improved safety, as Grok 4.7 uses a new safeguard system that the company says is its strongest yet at resisting jailbreak attempts and refusing harmful requests. Indeed, on HackerBench v0.3, only 3.3% of risky cybersecurity prompts made it through the model's safeguards.
Moreover, SpaceX has given selected cybersecurity partners access to Grok 4.7's red-team tools for defensive research.
Grok 4.7 is available through Cursor and Grok Build. Developers can also access it through the Grok API, with a faster version available at twice the standard price.
