Anthropic IPO Could Fetch $2 Trillion Valuation, But Company Warns of "Existential Risks"

LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

Anthropic targets a $2 trillion Nasdaq IPO, potentially the largest ever. The company reported $4.6B revenue in 2025 but an $8.06B operating loss due to surging infrastructure costs, with $518B in future commitments. The prospectus dedicates significant space to 'existential risks' of AI, including self-preserving behaviors and blackmail-like actions. CEO Dario Amodei advocates for slowing AI releases while continuing product launches like Claude Opus 5.5.

AI startup Anthropic is reportedly targeting a valuation of more than $2 trillion for its planned Nasdaq (NDAQ) listing. According to Reuters, citing the company's IPO draft prospectus, Anthropic also warned that advanced AI could pose "catastrophic or existential risks to humanity."

Reuters previously reported that Anthropic's IPO could be pushed until after the November U.S. midterm elections. If the company goes public at a $2 trillion valuation, the deal would rank among the largest public listings and could exceed the size of SpaceX's (SPCX) June offering.

What Investors Are Watching Ahead of Anthropic IPO

Anthropic's rapid growth is a key point for investors. The company generated nearly $4.6 billion in revenue in 2025, up about 12 times from the prior year. However, its operating loss widened to about $8.06 billion as spending on computing and infrastructure surged to $7.33 billion.

The company also faces high future costs. Anthropic's IPO prospectus lists about $518 billion in commitments for cloud, computing, and infrastructure in the coming years. This highlights how much capital may be needed to support its AI ambitions.

Anthropic Warns of AI Risks

Apart from the financial details, AI risks are a key focus of Anthropic's IPO filing. Risk factors cover 80 of the prospectus' 261 pages, nearly twice the 48 pages that cover the company's business.

Anthropic also said some of its AI models could show "self-preserving behaviors," such as trying to resist shutdown or hide and manipulate information. The filing also warned that some AI behavior could resemble blackmail. The warning stands out because Anthropic is building its business around the same technology. Anthropic says the market will reward AI systems that are reliable and secure.

Recently, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has called on the AI industry to slow the release of new AI capabilities to address these risks. At the same time, Anthropic keeps adding new AI products. Last week, it launched Claude Opus 5.5, a new AI model, costing 40% less to run than its predecessor.
