CoreWeave or Palantir: Cathie Wood Buys $8M of One Stock, Sells $3.6M of the Other

LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

ARK Invest founder Cathie Wood purchased $8 million of CoreWeave (CRWV) shares while selling $3.6 million of Palantir (PLTR) stock. This move suggests a bet on CoreWeave's recovery despite its recent 30% October slump driven by debt concerns and aggressive spending. Conversely, Palantir rose 55% since August due to strong AI demand. While trimming Palantir profits, Wall Street maintains a Moderate Buy consensus for CoreWeave with an average price target implying significant upside.

CoreWeave (NASDAQ:CRWV) and Palantir (NASDAQ:PLTR) have given investors two contrasting experiences in recent months, despite their close connections to the AI boom. CoreWeave has suffered a brutal October, with shares tumbling 30% amid mounting concerns about its debt burden, aggressive spending, and ability to turn soaring demand for computing capacity into sustainable profits.

Palantir investors, meanwhile, have had far more reasons to celebrate their investment, with the stock climbing 55% since its early August earnings report. The AI and data analytics company continues to benefit from strong demand among government agencies and commercial customers, although its lofty valuation has left some investors wondering how much further the rally can go.

Closely followed investor and ARK Invest founder Cathie Wood appears willing to bet on a CoreWeave recovery while taking some profits from Palantir's impressive rally. On Monday, she purchased 132,498 CRWV shares through her ARK funds, worth about $8 million at current prices, while selling 18,349 PLTR shares valued at $3.6 million. The transactions suggest Wood sees an opportunity in the beaten-down cloud provider, although trimming her Palantir holdings doesn't necessarily indicate fading confidence in the software company's prospects.

CoreWeave's Debt Troubles Keep Investors on Edge

CoreWeave's October selloff reflects growing skepticism about the financial costs of expanding AI infrastructure, particularly as the company continues pouring billions into data centers and Nvidia chips. Its heavy reliance on borrowing has become a serious concern, with investors worried that interest expenses could consume a large portion of future revenue.

Those fears have grown amid rising yields on CoreWeave's bonds, which suggest creditors are seeking greater compensation for the risks involved. Meanwhile, concerns about construction delays, customer concentration, and whether AI developers can sustain their spending have given investors additional reasons to reconsider the stock's valuation.

Yet, some analysts believe the market has become excessively pessimistic about CoreWeave's prospects, particularly given the limited availability of advanced computing capacity. Goldman Sachs upgraded CRWV to Buy on Monday, arguing that the company's infrastructure advantages and growing customer commitments could support stronger revenue over the coming years.

Wall Street's broader assessment offers another reason for optimism, with 21 analysts recommending Buy, 6 choosing to stay on the sidelines, and just 2 advising Sell. Overall, CoreWeave holds a Moderate Buy consensus rating, while the average 12-month price target of $140.21 suggests a potential gain of 129% from current levels. (See CRWV stock forecast)
