AI TRENDS | Anthropic Plans Secondary Share Sales in IPO
Anthropic is drafting a plan to allow existing shareholders to sell some shares in its blockbuster IPO, while also considering a longer-than-usual lockup period after listing. According to Sina Finance, the company’s private valuation reached $96.5 billion in May, and investment banks have discussed an IPO valuation of $150 billion, slightly below SpaceX’s IPO pricing valuation. The planned share sale would set Anthropic apart from SpaceX and Cerebras, which did not allow existing shareholders to sell stock during their IPOs this year. In recent years, large tech IPOs such as CoreWeave and Figma have allowed existing shareholders to sell shares alongside the issuance of new stock.
