Meta Platform Takes Aim at Salesforce, ServiceNow With AI Push

LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

Meta launched the Meta Enterprise Platform, an AI-driven suite for businesses, directly challenging Salesforce and ServiceNow. The announcement triggered a sector-wide stock selloff, with shares of Salesforce, ServiceNow, Microsoft, Oracle, Adobe, and others declining. Meta hired MongoDB CEO Chirantan CJ Desai to lead the initiative, causing MongoDB's stock to plunge 25%. Investors view this as a significant competitive threat in enterprise AI, though execution risks remain.

Meta Platforms is making a direct push into enterprise software, and investors are already reassessing what that could mean for some of the biggest names in the sector.

Meta unveiled the Meta Enterprise Platform, describing it as a new pillar of its business that will bring the company's broader technology stack to businesses and developers.

The platform will include the Muse AI agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, Muse Code and other tools aimed at enterprise customers.

The announcement immediately pressured software stocks.

The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF fell about 2% in early trading. ServiceNow dropped 5%, Salesforce declined 4.5%, Microsoft lost 2% and Oracle fell 3%.

Other software names were hit even harder. Figma dropped 6%, Adobe fell 4%, SAP slipped 3% and monday.com (MNDY) sank 7%. Accenture declined about 1.5%.

Meta is also bringing in an experienced enterprise-software executive to lead the effort.

The company tapped MongoDB CEO Chirantan CJ Desai to run the new platform. MongoDB shares plunged roughly 25% by Monday's market open following the leadership news.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg pointed to Desai's background in full-stack software, AI, infrastructure, business applications and security as key reasons for the hire.

Investor takeaway

The market reaction shows investors are treating Meta's move as more than another AI product launch.

Meta already has enormous computing infrastructure, AI models and a massive business-user ecosystem. Packaging those capabilities into enterprise products could put it in closer competition with Salesforce, ServiceNow, Microsoft and Oracle.

The biggest question is execution.

Meta still needs to prove that companies will adopt its enterprise tools at scale and that it can turn those products into meaningful revenue.

For established software vendors, investors should watch customer retention, AI-agent adoption and pricing as Meta begins competing for enterprise workloads.

The early selloff suggests Wall Street is already pricing in the possibility that another deep-pocketed technology giant has entered the enterprise AI race.
