Anthropic's Claude Can Now Link Bank Accounts and Analyze Transactions But Won't Offer Investment Advice

LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

Anthropic unveiled a personal finance feature in beta for its Claude chatbot, giving paid U.S. subscribers a read-only view of selected financial accounts.

Anthropic began rolling out the feature on Thursday to Claude Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers. Users can link bank and credit card accounts through Plaid, enabling Claude to answer questions about balances, purchases, bills and other account information. Users also have the option of unlinking the bank account if they want.

The company said the tool cannot transfer, manage or invest money, and is not designed to offer investment advice. Access remains limited to information users authorize.

Claude may see connected institutions, account details, balances, credit limits and as much as two years of transaction history, according to Anthropic. The personal finance hub will not include advertising or sponsored recommendations. Anthropic also said conversations in the hub will not be used to train its AI models.

Claude Expands Into Science as IPO Looms

The finance rollout expands Claude beyond general chatbot use as Anthropic builds products for specialized, information-heavy tasks.

In August, Claude began designing proteins and analyzing chemistry data with limited human input. Claude generated 1,320 protein designs, yielding 354 working protein binders with a 22.6%–35.1% success rate, more than double the typical 10%–15%.

By September, the company had taken that scientific push beyond software, establishing a physical biology facility in the San Francisco Bay Area. Eric Kauderer-Abrams, Anthropic’s life sciences leader, also confirmed the wet lab’s existence.

Anthropic’s planned IPO could face a lower valuation than its $1.5 trillion target, with major investors reportedly favoring a valuation closer to $1 trillion following Thursday’s $3 trillion market selloff, particularly impacting the tech sector. Investors also warned the company could delay the listing or raise less than the expected $100 billion amid renewed concerns about AI-sector risks.
