Jensen Huang Says AI CEOs May Have 'Ulterior', Maybe 'Political' Reasons For AI Doomsday Warnings: 'Go and Read Between The Lines'

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang criticized AI lab leaders for using 'doomsday' warnings to seek regulatory relief rather than new laws, calling their motives political or ulterior. He argued that existing laws suffice and warned that slowing U.S. AI development could benefit China. Huang rejected safety concerns as unscientific, aligning with President Trump's stance to foster AI growth without hindrance, including plans for an 'AI czar'.

Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang accused AI lab leaders of being “irresponsible” and resorting to “too much drama” in their calls for more AI oversight.

During the CBS News’ Face The Nation interview on Sunday, Huang suggested, “They’re actually not asking for more laws. They’re asking to be relieved of the laws we do have.”

“Go and read between the lines,” he added.

Huang also speculated about the motives of AI labs, suggesting they might be “political,” attention-seeking, or for other “ulterior” reasons. He reiterated his concerns that a slowdown in U.S. labs could give China an advantage in the global AI race.

Huang argued that AI companies are capable of managing safety themselves and that existing laws provide the government with tools to address unsafe products. He also pushed back on AI doomsday predictions and said, “It’s wrong because it’s not grounded on science.”

Huang Rejects Calls For AI Rules

Earlier this month, Huang pushed back on calls for new antitrust rules that could allow AI companies to coordinate a slowdown in the development of increasingly powerful models.

He stated that AI companies do not need new laws or regulatory exemptions to properly test their products before releasing them. His comments came after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s proposal for AI labs to coordinate the pace of frontier-model development.

White House science adviser Michael Kratsios said AI companies concerned about their technology’s safety can voluntarily slow or halt development without government intervention.

Trump Plans AI Czar, ‘AI Force’

President Donald Trump, who also echoes the Nvidia CEO’s stance, announced plans to appoint a new artificial intelligence adviser, or "AI czar," and establish an "AI force," to oversee the growth of the AI industry.

"We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry. Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. The President added that said the U.S. would address harmful AI use through the existing criminal and civil justice system.
