OCBC seniors' digital payment transactions surge 60% in 12 months

The total number of digital payment transactions made by seniors rose by nearly 60% in the 12-month period ending 30 June 2026, OCBC said in a statement on 30 September 2026.

The number of seniors using the app for online shopping and travel payments rose by 30% over the same period, OCBC said.

Seniors’ use of PayNow via the OCBC app to make payments to e-commerce and livestream shopping platforms—including Shopee and TikTok shop— was 1.5 times higher than a year earlier, according to the bank.

Overseas QR payment transactions made by seniors using OCBC’s scan & pay feature doubled. China accounted for almost 80% of the value of scan & pay overseas transitions, the bank said.

OCBC said that it has enhanced accessibility of its app, rolling out a language switch option between English and Chinese, and a text resizing feature with seven text size options. Over 15,000 seniors have adopted the feature, according to OCBC.

OCBC said that over 150,000 seniors have participated in over 180 workshops and engagement events the bank organised, with the goal of equipping seniors with digital banking skills.
