ASX 200 stocks hitting fresh 52-week highs and lows – Week 37

Market Index
Sep 7, 2026 at 12:17 AM
LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

ASX 200 stocks hit fresh 52-week highs and lows in Week 37. Highs were driven by energy (New Hope, Viva, Ampol), health care (Ramsay, Ansell), and materials (South32, Perseus). Lows included Pexa, JB Hi-Fi, Iress, and Aussie Broadband following earnings reports. The Materials Index fell 4.6% amid rising rate expectations and bond yields. Breadth narrowed from last week's surge, with most lows attributed to earnings misses or sector-specific pressures.

Welcome back to the 52-Week Series, where we recap the S&P/ASX 200 stocks that have hit fresh yearly highs and lows over the past week. Tracking this data point helps identify emerging trends across various stocks and sectors.

When clusters of stocks within a sector reach new highs or lows, it often points to meaningful underlying drivers such as shifting commodity prices, changing demand patterns (such as AI, pivots into defensive sectors, consumer weakness etc), or companies beating/missing earnings expectations.

What Does the Data Tell Us?

  • Where'd the breadth go: Last week we flagged a 'big breadth explosion', with the ASX 200 trading within 2% of all-time highs and 20 stocks hitting a 52-week high, largely led by resources. That's unwound quickly. Growing RBA and Fed hike expectations, global bond yields at multi-year highs and Brent not far from US$100 a barrel made for a nerve-racking backdrop, and the all-important ASX 200 Materials Index copped the worst of it, down 4.6% for the week. The 52-week high list is thin again, made up of reporting season winners (Ramsay and Ansell), energy names (New Hope, Viva and Ampol) and the odd miner still holding on. Lows have risen from 11 to 14, but there's nothing alarming in the mix. Most are reporting season stragglers, where an earnings miss brings a heavy one-day selloff followed by a slow grind lower. A few results of interest, with beats and misses against consensus.
    • Pexa: FY26 revenue up 7% to $406.9m (1.9% miss), EBITDA up 12% to $151.7m (3.2% beat), no dividend. FY27 revenue guided $385-415m (6.7% below) and EBITDA margin of 31.5-33.5%, roughly $130m at the midpoint (10.2% below). IPART has proposed a 20% cut to regulated revenue from FY28.
    • JB Hi-Fi: FY26 sales up 4.8% to $11.06bn, EBIT up 3.8% to $734.4m and NPAT up 2.9% to $489.9m, all in line. Full-year dividend of 337.0cps, up 22.5%. The read-through is in the quarterly trend, with JB Hi-Fi Australia sales growth easing to 4.0% in Q3 and just 0.3% in Q4, then down 0.5% in July.
    • Iress: 1H26 revenue up 2.5% in constant currency to $250.0m (3% miss), UPAT up 18.4% to $38.8m (6% miss), interim dividend of 14.0cps, up 27.3%. FY26 cash EBITDA guided $119-124m, a 3% miss at the midpoint.
    • Aussie Broadband: FY26 revenue up 9.2% to $1.30bn and underlying EBITDA up 19.6% to $165.3m, both in line. NPATA up 25.8% to $70.2m (3% beat), dividend of 6.0c (20% beat) plus a $115m buyback. FY27 EBITDA guided $205-215m, ~4% below expectations. On pricing, Brian Maher said the market is essentially at wholesale prices with no sign of rationality returning.
