The company tapped MongoDB CEO Chirantan CJ Desai to run the new platform. MongoDB shares plunged roughly 25% by Monday's market open following the leadership news.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg pointed to Desai's background in full-stack software, AI, infrastructure, business applications and security as key reasons for the hire.

The market reaction shows investors are treating Meta's move as more than another AI product launch.

Meta already has enormous computing infrastructure, AI models and a massive business-user ecosystem. Packaging those capabilities into enterprise products could put it in closer competition with Salesforce, ServiceNow, Microsoft and Oracle.
