‘Could Happen This Week’: Ross Gerber Says SpaceX Could Make $420 Tesla Bid, Spurred by 'Pretty Poor' Earnings From TSLA

LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

Investor Ross Gerber suggests SpaceX could bid $420 per share for Tesla this week, citing expected weak Q3 earnings. This follows CEO Elon Musk confirming that both companies have formed committees to evaluate a potential merger, though he is recused from negotiations due to conflicts of interest. Other investors and analysts also discuss the increasing likelihood of such a deal amid mixed market reactions.

As Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX) reported third-quarter earnings on Tuesday, investor Ross Gerber thinks now would be the best time for the commercial spaceflight giant to acquire Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA).

SpaceX to Offer $420/Share?

In a post on the social media platform X, Gerber shared his take on a merger between the two companies, something which he called “obvious” following Tesla’s Roadster reveal on October 15. “It [merger deal] could happen this week,” the investor said in the post.

The investor questioned if SpaceX should “bid $420 for Tesla,” adding that he expected “pretty poor eps result from Tesla” ahead of its earnings on Wednesday. “The timing might be right now,” he said.

It could happen this week. Does SpaceX bid $420 for Tesla… expecting a pretty poor eps result from Tesla so the timing might be right now… $TSLA $SPCX

Investor Gary Black of The Future Fund LLC said on Monday that he expected Tesla to receive a $420/share offer from SpaceX, but warned that a merger may not result in “windfall” profits for the EV giant’s shareholders, citing dilution concerns with such a move.

On the other hand, as SpaceX posted largely positive earnings, investor Gene Munster of Deepwater Asset Management, as noted Tesla bull Dan Ives, said that the likelihood of a merger between the two enterprises was increasing following the earnings call.

Notably, CEO Elon Musk confirmed that both companies had formed committees to deliberate the pros and cons of such a merger, but said that he was not involved with the negotiations, citing a conflict of interest since he is the CEO of both companies and holds considerable voting power in the companies.

Tesla’s Earnings

Analysts expect the EV maker to report revenue of $27.88 billion for the third quarter of 2026, which is down from Tesla’s Q3 2025 revenue of $28.09 billion. Notably, Tesla has missed analyst revenue consensus in six of the past ten quarters.

Wall Street consensus puts Tesla’s EPS at 43 cents per share, which is down from 50 cents per share that it reported in Q3 2025.

Tesla’s investors also posted their questions for the EV giant ahead of the earnings call, with most investors curious to know the EV maker’s Robotaxi strategy, Cybercab’s release for the general public, as well as questions about regulatory approvals for its self-driving technology.

Price Action: SPCX shares were up 8.90% to $160.94 during overnight trading on Tuesday, while TSLA shares were up 1.61% to $379.74 during overnight trading.
