Context:
Meta Platforms (Meta Platforms Inc) recently reported second-quarter revenue of $60.8 billion, an impressive 28% increase year over year. Despite this strong advertising engine, the stock trades lower near $570 per share. A aggressive spike in quarterly capital expenditures to $31.1 billion—alongside $2.4 billion in legal charges—shrank free cash flow down to $784 million and pressured net margin performance.
My Trade:
I intend to buy this structural weakness to scale into my long-term position. Meta’s foundational ecosystem remains highly robust, capturing an active user base of 3.6 billion daily active people. At an attractive forward price-to-earnings ratio of 21.4x, the equity offers excellent value compared to key mega-cap technology peers.
Takeaway:
Elevated AI expenditures create near-term volatility, but they establish long-term economic moats. Meta can comfortably protect margins via its upcoming “Iris” custom AI silicon chip while unlocking brand-new commercial infrastructure playbooks, such as renting out surplus data-center computing capacity. Patient market participants can view this localized valuation compression as a high-conviction accumulation zone.
