The Whole Chip Complex Crashed Today. Nvidia Went Up. Here Is Why That Matters

LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

The semis ETF fell over 3% today. Intel dropped nearly 10%, AMD lost 8%, Applied Materials fell 10%, memory went into a bear market. In the middle of that carnage, Nvidia closed up about 1% at 196. When a whole sector gets taken to the woodshed and one name goes green, that divergence is worth more than any single day of price action.

Why the group fell and Nvidia did not

Two things hit the group today. Samsung's record print could not lift chips because they were priced for perfection, and a Reuters report said DeepSeek is building its own inference chip. Both are reasons to sell the expensive, second-tier AI names. Neither is a reason to sell the company whose chips everyone, including arguably DeepSeek's rivals, still needs. When the tide goes out, you find out which names have real demand under them.

The valuation argument nobody expected

Here is the part that surprised me. Goldman came out and called Nvidia's forward P/E of about 21.7 times attractive, noting it sits near the S&P 500 average and far below its own five-year average of around 72 times. Think about that. The most important company in the AI buildout is trading at a market-average multiple. That is not what a bubble top looks like. Bubble tops look like AMD at a P/E of 173, which is exactly the name that fell 8% today.

The one risk I am watching

The Kyber NVL144 delay rumor got denied this week, roadmap intact, and I believe them. But the DeepSeek story is the real thing to watch. If Chinese labs genuinely design Nvidia out of their stack, the long-term addressable market shrinks at the margin. I do not think it dents 2026 or 2027, but it is the first structural bear argument worth respecting, and I am not going to pretend it is nothing.

How I am positioned

I held my $NVIDIA(NVDA.US) core through the whole sector selloff and did not add, because up 1% on a red day for the group is not an entry, it is confirmation. My plan is to add on a real market-wide flush if it comes, not on relative strength. Today Nvidia earned its premium by being the only large chip name buyers wanted. That is the tell I care about.

Not financial advice, just what the divergence told me.
