Context: Bank of America analyst raised his price forecast on Microsoft to $600, saying that investors still underestimate how the company differentiates itself in artificial intelligence. He thinks that instead of competing with Claude, Gemini etc, Microsoft builds on those AI models by offering enterprises a secure, controlled platform for deploying them. He views Copilot as an orchestration layer that allows businesses to use Microsoft’s own AI applications or external models depending on the task. This can help customers avoid using the most expensive AI models for every application and better manage token costs. Microsoft Code 1 as an example, saying it can reduce costs by as much as 85% for certain tasks.
My Trade: I am betting on Microsoft in the long run. It survived the Global Financial Crisis, Covid, 2022 rate hikes, why wouldn't it survive a minor Saas-apocalypse setback?
Takeaway: Microsoft’s advantage lies in delivering the AI capabilities customers need across products such as Excel, PowerPoint and Dynamics 365 at substantially lower costs rather than simply offering the most advanced AI model. The ecosystem is also one that has been undisputedly at the top for decades. @Captain's Treasure
