Hogs Retreating Lower on Monday

Live cattle futures saw a slight increase of 12 cents in June contracts, while other contracts fell by 30 to 40 cents. Cash trade ranged from $260-265 in the South and $408-415 in the North. Feeder cattle futures dropped by $2 to $2.35. China renewed export licenses for over 400 US beef plants and committed to purchasing $17 billion annually of U.S. agricultural products from 2026 to 2028. Wholesale boxed beef prices rose, with USDA estimating cattle slaughter at 53,500 head last week.

Cattle Slipping Lower on Monday

China's agriculture ministry has urged the pork industry to reduce overcapacity, stimulate consumption, and monitor financial risks. Producers are encouraged to recover pork prices and focus on quality rather than quantity. The ministry has cut the breeding sow holding level by 3.8% to address oversupply and weak demand, aiming to stabilize the number of large-scale pig farms at no fewer than 130,000.
