Iggy's Journal: OCBC's Yield Fell Even As the Price Hit a Record High. Here's How That Happens
28 August 2026, AM
Video Release:
New piece up on OCBC. It just printed a record intraday high while its ordinary dividend yield sits at 2.9%, below my 3.2% forensic floor. Profit growth of 13% year on year looks strong on paper, but the special payout that used to boost income has rolled out of the trailing window, leaving a smaller distribution set against a much higher share price.
My Personal Take:
If you're holding OCBC for retirement income in CPF or SRS, the share price gain does nothing for you if the dividend is what you actually spend. A record high and a passing grade on my framework are not the same thing, and this week's OCBC is the cleanest example I've seen in a while of that gap. Iggy's Forensic Zone: Zone 5, Red Zone. This isn't a timing call I'd expect to reverse on its own, the yield has fallen through my structural floor, not just missed my hurdle, so I'm not framing this as patience being rewarded later. It's a straightforward statement about what the payout can support right now.
Not financial advice. Iggy's Forensic Compliance Standards apply.
