VIPC Summit 2026 targets global capital for Việt Nam's strategic tech sectors

The National Assembly of Vietnam has adopted a medium-term public investment plan for 2026-30, aiming to enhance infrastructure, sustain growth, and improve social welfare. The plan targets public investment to account for 20-22% of total social investment, with a goal of 40% of social investment to GDP. The total public investment capital is set at VNĐ8.22 quadrillion (approximately US$312 billion), with a focus on key priorities and a reduction of projects by at least 30% compared to the previous period. Moody’s lifts Việt Nam’s outlook to "positive" on reform drive

Total registered foreign investment in Vietnam reached $18.24 billion as of April 27, marking a 32% year-on-year increase. This includes 1,249 new projects with a registered capital of $12.15 billion, primarily in manufacturing and processing, which attracted $8.12 billion. Realized foreign investment was estimated at $7.40 billion, the highest in five years. Singapore led foreign investments with $6.05 billion, followed by South Korea and China. Notably, capital contributions and share purchases rose by 61.9% to $2.96 billion.

Resilience alone not enough for firms to thrive, experts say

The finance ministry of Vietnam is proposing more flexible tax thresholds for household businesses and a tax-free revenue level for small firms to adapt to economic pressures. The draft law suggests eliminating the fixed revenue threshold of VNĐ500 million, allowing the government to set thresholds based on economic conditions. Additionally, a new corporate income tax exemption for small enterprises is proposed, aimed at supporting nearly 94% of businesses in Vietnam. The ministry seeks government approval to expedite the draft law submission to the National Assembly in April 2024.
