Corn prices increased by ½ to 1 ¼ cents on Tuesday morning, following a rally on Monday where contracts rose 14 ½ to 21 ¼ cents. The average Cash Corn price is now $4.37 1/2, up 21 1/4 cents. This buying surge is attributed to a White House announcement regarding U.S.-China agricultural purchases. The U.S. corn crop is 76% planted, ahead of the 5-year average. Export inspections reported 1.379 MMT of corn shipped, with Japan being the largest destination.

Corn futures closed Monday with gains of 3 to 5 cents, with the national average Cash Corn price rising to $4.34 3/4. USDA reported private export sales of 380,000 MT to Mexico and 128,000 MT to South Korea. The US corn crop is 57% planted, ahead of the 5-year average. Export shipments totaled 1.691 MMT, with Mexico as the top destination. The May WASDE report is expected to show old crop corn stocks at 2.13 billion bushels. A South Korean importer issued a tender for 210,000 MT of corn, with a deadline on Tuesday.
