7️⃣ 🌏 My final takeaway
Thursday's market action showed that the technology sector can experience a sharp correction even when the broader market is not collapsing. Gold also retreated as investors reassessed the relationship between inflation, the dollar and interest-rate expectations.
My working hypothesis is that some investors are becoming more defensive, potentially directing part of their capital towards short-term bonds and cash-like assets while using options to hedge equity exposure.

🇺🇸 1️⃣ US Earnings: P&G, Blackstone and Comcast
Investors will be watching results from Procter & Gamble, Blackstone and Comcast for clues about consumer spending, private-market investment activity and the health of the US media and broadband businesses. Strong earnings and optimistic guidance could support their shares, while weaker outlooks may trigger selling even if reported profits beat expectations.
🇹🇼 2️⃣ Micron: Taiwan Labour Dispute
Micron faces a 24-hour strike by its Taoyuan union over employee bonuses and profit-sharing, despite reaching a separate agreement with its Taichung union. The key concern is whether industrial action disrupts DRAM and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) production used in AI server.@Captain's Watch

📊 Market Catalysts: Why These Numbers Matter for Tesla, Apple and TSMC! 🚗🍎🏭
🇺🇸 US import prices and industrial production are important catalysts because they reveal whether inflationary pressure is building and whether the economy remains strong. Higher import prices could increase costs for companies like Tesla, affecting batteries, components and manufacturing margins. 🍎 For Apple, import costs and tariffs may influence iPhone production expenses and profit margins. 🏭 TSMC is crucial because it manufactures advanced chips powering AI, smartphones and data centres. Strong industrial production may signal resilient chip demand, while rising inflation could keep interest rates higher for longer, putting pressure

📊 I’m watching TSMC’s Q3 earnings closely because they can give us clues about whether AI demand is still strong. If companies like Nvidia and other AI leaders continue spending heavily on chips, semiconductor stocks could benefit. However, hotter inflation and rising producer prices may keep interest rates higher for longer, putting pressure on growth stocks and long-term bonds. 🇺🇸 I’ll also watch US retail sales and jobless claims for signs of consumer strength and labour-market weakness. Strong data may support the economy but delay rate cuts, while weaker data could increase market volatility.@Captain's Watch

🎯 My CPI Prediction: 1B 2B 2B
📊 I expect headline CPI to come in at 3.5% or lower, while core CPI may remain around 2.4%. For monthly core CPI, I’m choosing +0.2%, as inflation may be gradually cooling despite some sticky price pressures.
💰 If inflation comes in cooler than expected, markets may welcome the possibility of a less hawkish Federal Reserve. Gold and equities could benefit, while Treasury yields and the US dollar may face pressure. However, hotter inflation could trigger the opposite reaction.
